I started this blog in May of 2008. My anger and disgust with the Cheney/Bush Junta started long before that. But it was an unemployed third string right wing radio blabber mouth named Melanie Morgan and her followers that made me decide to start a blog that focused on this pro-war group.
There were bigger fish to fry but bigger fish fryers could handle them. I decided to focus on the bottom feeders because it had gotten personal.
Berkeley has long been known for it’s anti-war position. Never the less the Marines decided it would be a good idea to move their recruiting station from Alameda to Berkeley just around the corner from the High School.
Of course there were protests.
So M.M. and her crew, always ready for an opportunity to use the troops as a shield for their theatrics, came to the city on several occasions, not to protest or make a statement but to “bring this city to it’s knees”. A boycott.
Karl Rove might call it economic terrorism if it was done to his town.
They enlisted the help of Senator Jim DeMint who introduced the Semper Fi Act of 2008. The bill would strip $2.1 million in education and youth nutrition earmarks for the city and give it to the Marines.
He was reprimanded for his actions and was demoted in the leadership of the Senate and was censured. The bill went down in flames.
So that’s why it was personal. My home, my town, the place where my wife and I raised our kids. These people thought they could bring an American city “to it’s knees”.
[EDIT: 1/22/08 This idea of being able to pick and choose which parts of the country are "the real America" became a hallmark of the Palin McCain campaign.]
Well it’s over now. At least for the bottom feeders. I checked out their website just now and it seems that they found out about this guy named Bill Ayers who is a terrorist and has been Obama’s BFF since first grade. Also they have a program called “Save Gitmo”. There’s a petition you can sign and everything. I hope there are some Save Gitmo T shirts left.
Anyway, I think I’m to keep this little blog alive. I like it more now.
I’ll leave you with this. If you ask anybody at MAf what they think of Chris Matthews they’ll tell you he’s a radical leftist. Funny huh?
“An amateur is generally considered a person attached to a particular pursuit, study, or science, without formal training or pay. Conversely, an expert is generally considered a person with extensive knowledge, ability, and/or training in a particular area of study, while a professional is someone who also makes a living from it. Translated from its French origin to the English “lover of”, the term “amateur” reflects a voluntary motivation to work as a result of personal passion for a particular activity.”

A couple of months ago I entered the “word” cheapsurrealism in my google alerts to see if anything ever came up.
Yesterday I got an email with a link to a right wing blog that warned it’s readers:
“Sites like this one: http://www.cheapsurrealism.com/
are often run by failed amateur film makers seeking to make a name for themselves by capitalizing on such provocation.”
I thought he hit the nail on the head. But I couldn’t stop thinking about the failed amateur. Was it possible to fail at being an amateur?
It depends. If you’re an amateur rock climber your failure can be sudden and tragic.
I feel comfortable with my love of film making. Editing is like knitting. It relaxes me.
